The Director General of the National Environmental Standards and Regulations Enforcement Agency (NESREA) Prof. Innocent Barikor is on the Nigerian delegation to the 2025 CITES COP 20 taking place in Samarkand, Uzbekistan.

The Nigerian delegation is led by the Hon. Minister of Environment, Balarabe Abbas Lawal and includes the Deputy Chairman, House of Representatives Committee on Environment, Hon. Terseer Ugbor; the Conservator General of the National Park Service of Nigeria, Dr. Ibrahim Goni and the Director Forestry, Federal Ministry of Environment, among others.


Prof Barikor was accompanied by Director Environmental Quality Control, Mr. Elijah Udofia and the Head Conservation Monitoring, Mr. Gbenga Kolawole.
The Nigerian delegation took part in a side event organized by Elephant Protection Initiative Foundation (EPIF), discussing the way forward in solving Elephant-human conflicts in Africa, Management of wildlife stockpiles, regulation of domestic markets for wildlife, etc.
