Circular and POPs-Free Plastics in Africa (GEFID 11049)

Circular and POPs-free Plastics in Africa Project has actively commenced the implementation of the project objectives in the five participating countries, namely: Kenya, Nigeria, South Africa, Uganda and Zimbabwe. 

Some of these objectives include to adopt and enforce upstream policies and financial instruments with p l a s t i c p r o d u c t d e s i g n e r s , manufacturers and assemblers to implement circular economy practices and eliminate/replace problematic products with more sustainable alternatives, and with recyclers and collectors to separate hazardous plastics fractions and increase awareness within the five national executing partners. 

The project newsletter effectively communicates its outputs and outcomes to the various stakeholders at the regional level. It informs and brings them up to speed on project activities, progress and results. 

This edition discusses the bursary awards to qualified candidates, interviews of the bursary awardees, Nigeria’s experience on characterization studies, webinars on various aspects of the project as well as profiles of some project personnel and many other reports. The Project Manager, Prof. Percy Onianwa, gives an in-depth interview, speaking on the challenges, progress and projections. It is an informative read.
